Winter Upcycled Wreath in 7 steps

I went to the Salvation Army the other day on a mission.

Mission complete . . . almost.

No, those aren't maternity clothes!  I needed wool sweaters or fleece in creams, browns and whites for my first project of 2011.

The whites were a bit discolored and dingy so I decided to just go to AC Moore and get white felt.

I wanted to make an upcycled wreath that I saw on Philigry.


It took me a lot longer than I expected, but I was happy with the results.

It's a pretty easy project, but takes a while to get all of the flowers made. 

Here's how you do it in seven simple steps:



Step 1 - Wash wool sweaters on hot and dry them on the highest setting to get them to felt.

Step 2 -- cut out circles in various sizes.  They don't have to be perfect.

Step 3 -- Cut the circles in the form of a spiral and leave a little tab at the end (center).

It should look like this:

Step 4-- Starting on the outside, roll the felt up until you reach the center.

Step 5 -- Use hot glue to secure the little tab to the bottom of the flower.

Step 6 - Trim your flower if necessary to make it (somewhat) even.

Step 7 - Glue the flowers to your wreath form.  You could use styrofoam, but I found the wire wreath form was significantly less expensive at AC Moore than the styrofoam, so I just covered it in brown packaging paper first, like this:

Besides, I hate styrofoam. I hate everything about it. It makes a mess, it's bad for the environment, it breaks easily, and it always turns into  melted plastic when I try to hot glue to

(not that I"m trying to influence you . . . :-).

Once you get all of your flowers glued on, you'll have a beautiful winter wreath!
